Diatom : Asterionella Starchain

Diatoms are single celled plants
which have a hard and intricate silica case.They are the ‘grass’ of the sea,
being a fundamental part of food chains and are responsible for at least 25% of total global primary production. There are many thousands of different species. The cells of some species join together to form chains.
Asterionella individuals link to form spiral star-shaped colonies.
